L’Association des communicateurs scientifiques (ACS – www.acs.qc.ca) présente la seconde édition du prix littéraire Hubert-Reeves de vulgarisation des sciences

Le prix Hubert-Reeves récompense les auteurs qui racontent la science et la technologie au grand public. Il est un des seuls prix à souligner le travail des écrivains francophones qui ont plongé dans la marmite de la vulgarisation scientifique et dans les bouillons de la rigueur qu’elle exige afin d’informer, de sensibiliser ou d’émerveiller ses lecteurs. En mettant sur pied ce prix qui récompense les livres de format papier et électronique, l’ACS veut promouvoir une culture scientifique diversifiée et de qualité en français au Canada.

Pour une seconde année, le prix Hubert-Reeves sera remis au lauréat pendant le Salon international du livre de Québec en 2012. Il récompensera un ouvrage publié entre le 1er décembre 2010 et le 1er décembre 2011 au Canada, et traitant d’un sujet scientifique vulgarisé pour le grand public. Les livres pour enfants sont admissibles au même titre que les livres pour adultes. L’auteur gagnant se verra décerner 1000$ et pourra bénéficier d’un soutien pour la promotion de son livre.

Munk-Gordon Arctic Security Speaker Series, fall/winter

The Munk-Gordon Speaker Series are monthly events held during the academic year on engaging Arctic security and sovereignty related issues. They are designed to foster a greater understanding of these issues through discussion and debate.

When: First Thursday of the month from September-April 1:00-2:30p.m.

Where: Room 108 North at the Munk School of Global Affairs (1 Devonshire Place) Toronto.

Munk-Gordon Annual Arctic Security Conference: January 17-18, 2012

The Canada Centre for Global Security Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs, the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation and the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law, at the Arctic Centre, at the University of Lapland are pleased to invite you to the event titled:

The Arctic Council: Its place in the future of Arctic Governance

This Conference will be a major event to discuss the way the Arctic Council should be developed. This is important in light of the fact that the Arctic Council has gone through a full rotation of chairs and because of the new challenges facing the region as climate change focuses the world’s attention on the Arctic now more than ever. The Conference will be followed by an online publication.

The Conference will feature original research contributions, but will also seek to engage decision-makers to debate these new ideas proposed by the researchers. The Members of the Arctic Council have expressed an interest in discussing new initiatives for the way forward and this project will help to inform that debate.
