Science Communication with "XR": Using Virtual and Augmented Reality in Museums, Galleries, and More

Natural history museums extend beyond moth-eaten dioramas of taxidermied animals. Art galleries aren't composed solely of framed paintings on otherwise blank walls. And science centres don't have to be filled with Atari-aged attempts at gaming. Institutions around the world are using creative technology and design to evolve and grab hold of new audiences. But what works and what is just the latest "immersive" gimmick?

Date/time: October 22, 2024 3:00 - 4:00 pm ET

Price: $15 CAD for SWCC Members / $30 CAD for Non-Members

Host: Josh Silberg

Josh believes anything can be interesting if presented creatively, and loves figuring out how to do it. He's currently a Content Strategist with a Vancouver-based creative technology agency called ngx, as well as a producer with The Story Collider, an organization that helps folks tell personal stories about how science affects their lives. Previously, he spent ten years wearing many hats as a science communications coordinator for the BC-based Hakai Institute. Josh has been aptly described as eager, and is known to photograph birds, explore tide pools, attempt woodworking, and chase his toddler.
