This presentation provides a brief overview of the approach taken to launch Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) “research-policy snapshots.” CRDCN represents more than 2500 researchers at more than 40 universities in Canada, whose research spans a broad spectrum of social sciences and population health focus areas.
The session will provide science communicators and journalists with an inside look at the role and approach of a large research network to produce reader-friendly snapshots of journal articles and policy reports authored each year by the community of CRDCN researchers. In the spirit of open exchange and a shared interest in research as a public good, the presenter will share challenges encountered and will invite conference attendees to provide input on how these kinds of efforts could better serve and/or be executed in collaboration with the science communicator and journalist community.
The presenter will then facilitate a more general brainstorming session that invites participants to share ideas, successes (and failures) to contribute to the collective insight that can help connect organizations that are already connected with researchers to communities of people and professionals committed to science communication.
The session will also serve to share information with science communicators and journalists about CRDCN that may be useful to them. In turn, after the SWCC conference, the presenter will share information with her colleagues and the network of researchers that she serves in her role. In this way, the session may also lead to possible future collaboration.
